Road Safety Improvement Routes
Improving Road Safety for the City.
-
The number of people killed or seriously injured on the City's roads is reducing year on year.
-
Liverpool City Council has made good progress towards meeting Government Set Casualty Reduction Targets.
-
Most of the worst single collision sites have been improved though road safety engineering measures.
-
Our analysis has shown that the majority of collisions resulting in deaths and serious injuries are now spread out along the city's main roads.
-
This is why we have developed a new approach that looks at the "safety along the route" to seek to reduce the occurrence of collisions of all kinds including isolated ones and improve driver behaviour.
-
This includes a package of measures covering engineering, education and enforcement,
-
Other councils have used this method with great success in reducing & maintaining low collision and casualty rates.
Next Steps?
-
We have looked at all of the major routes in the City where there have been road traffic casualties.
-
We have been working in close partnership with Merseytravel to focus on potential improvements of major bus routes.
-
Our Road Safety Education Team aim to deliver a range of training to nursery, primary and secondary children along the routes.
-
The A59 County Road and A506 Longmoor Lane Routes were identified as having the highest number of people killed or seriously injured per kilometre length.
-
There are a further three routes which the City Council 's road Safety Services Department are looking to develop in this way over the next 12 months.
