General information
This section of our website will help you find out what we are doing to improve the city's streets and highways and make them safer.
Since 2003, Liverpool has been investing more than £4billion renewing its infrastructure and regenerating its communities. Specifically, we have spent over £70million on new pavings, squares and highways in the City Centre. We have also improved key gateways into the city such as Edge Lane and Speke Boulevard.
Merseyrail has been investing in our local rail network with improvements carried out at various stations to improve circulation and safety, provision of information, and a track replacement scheme in the Loop Line underground system. 98% of trains on the Merseyrail network run on time, making it the best performing rail operator in the country.
Meanwhile, Merseytravel has co-ordinated substantial investment in the bus network across the city, improving passenger shelters and providing bus lanes and other measures to ensure that Liverpool's bus fleet has priority of movement over other forms of traffic to ensure a rapid and convenient public transport alternative to car use.
Together with our partners, we have more improvements still planned.
