Are you a victim or witness to a crime?

Whether you have witnessed a crime or are a victim of crime you should report it. Please note that you should only call 999 in an emergency.

Merseyside Police has a new, easy to remember number to call for non-emergencies. When it is less urgent than 999, you should call 101, otherwise contact Merseyside Police on 709 6010.

Report a crime anonymously

If you have information about a crime or want to report it anonymously, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or submit details online.  Visit the Crimestoppers website to find out more.

Sexual assault or rape

How to report it

  •  In an emergency, dial 999. Police and ambulance workers will deal with you in confidence and with compassion.
  • You can also contact Merseyside Police by ringing 101 or 0151 709 6010.
  • The Crown Prosecution Service website offers information on the legal definitions of rape and sexual assault.

Where to get support

  • SAFE Place Merseyside provides medical and practical support to both males and females who have been raped or sexually assaulted. They can be contacted  on 0151 295 3550.
  • Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre for Liverpool-Sefton-Wirral can be contacted on 0151 666 1392 and also offer support and practical help.

Support and advice for victims of crime

Hate crime

If you have been a victim of hate crime because of your race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability, Stop Hate UK has a 24 hour helpline offering emotional support.  They can also take reports of hate crime and refer to other agencies.  Call 0800 138 1625 or visit the Stop Hate UK website.

Victim Support

Victim Support gives free and confidential help to victims of crime, domestic violence, witnesses, their family and friends.  You don’t have to report a crime to the Police to get help from Victim Support. Visit the national Victim Support website or call the Merseyside office on 0151 343 4025.
