In March 2004 Liverpool was awarded Fairtrade City Status.

The City Council has now pledged to make Liverpool the leading Fairtrade City in the UK.

Fairtrade makes a real difference to people in developing countries by helping them earn a realistic living and get a fair price for their goods. It can literally save lives.

Fairtrade is based on people in richer countries buying goods from suppliers who have agreed to trade fairly with producers in developing countries. There are other criteria too, and an independent organisation verifies this and awards a Fairtrade mark where the criteria are met.

Fairtrade products include things like tea, coffee, chocolate, fruit and coffee.

This website includes details of where you can buy Fairtrade products, and other ways you or your organisation can get involved in Fairtrade.
