'Having attended most of the events to commemorate National Holocaust Week/Day, I must congratulate you on the successful Exhibition that you helped to put on at the Town Hall. The other events were also of the highest calibre and I want you to know that, as a lifelong Jewish Businessman in this City, I felt very proud of the way these terrible events were portrayed. Well done, you made me very proud to be Liverpuddlian.'
Vic Huglin, UK
'I saw the Holocaust exhibition and though it was excellent so congratulations on all the hard work.'
Alan Smith, UK
'Just like to say a big thank you on the display from the Jewish Memorial, fantastic. It was nice to see some form of effort by the City Council for the safe homeage of the Jews during the war. We must never forget what happened all those years ago, and put into our minds the extremity of the loss, persecution and hatred of the Jews and I could go on. The deaths of so many people - is still going on today. So many trials and tribulations we as human beings go through torture to the highest degree. "A man is born free but everywhere he is in chains." Bless you all - again thank you.'
John Locke, UK
'Went to see the presentation at the Town Hall last Sunday. It was really moving and the impact of the glasses in a railway track was incredibly strong. It should be made a permanent exhibition at one of the museums/galleries.'

Brian Owens, USA
'Firstly let me congratulate you, your staff and the other organisers of the exhibition "RESPECTacles" recently held in the Town Hall for the Holocaust Memorial Day. I personally attended and was very moved by the information, the displays, the exhibition, the photographs, the videos and the story that was told by the manner in which the exhibition was laid. I was particularly moved and was brought to tears by the exhibition in the Main Ballroom. I was also amazed by the contributions of spectacles by celebrities and well known people in the entertainment industry and politically on a local, regional, national and international level. It was great that they took the time out to post and in most instances provide a handwritten note for the event. Finally given my background of growing up in the Caribbean, I was ignorant of a lot of things in relation to the Holocaust, but I am truly and sincerely thankful for the exhibition and the awareness that was raised by the whole event and because of this from this year forward both my family and I will always keep in our thoughts each year the event and the commemoration of the day.'
C Yankiah, UK
'On behalf of all the honorary officers of the AJR, I am writing to congratulate you and your colleagues on the outstanding efforts made by the City of Liverpool to organise events to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day.
While I was personally disappointed not to be able to attend the national commemoration I have been told by my colleagues about the thought provoking programme of events Liverpool arranged. I was also delighted to learn that thousands of people - including many AJR members - were able to participate in these events.
With our very best wishes for your continued success.'

'After attending the Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) in the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, I was left completely speechless. I am a survivor having come to this country with the 'Kindertransport' in March 1939 after one year under Nazi rule in what was previously Austria. I travel all over the UK to schools to tell my story under the auspices of the LJCC and the HET. After attending this commemoration I make the commitment to continue to do this and increase my efforts even more.'

'WE MUST ALWAYS REMEMBER AND MAKE SURE NOTHING AS VICIOUS AND CRUEL AND UNPRESIDENTED LIKE THE HOLOCAUST EVER HAPPENS AGAIN, WE MUST TAKE A STAND AGAINST THE GENOCIDE OF ANY PEOPLE IN ANY COUNTRY OF THE WORLD, AGAINST CRUEL DICTATORSHIPS AND THE OPPRESSION OF PEOPLE BECAUSE OF RACE, SEXUALITY, OR BELIEFS. TOGETHER WE CAN STAND UNITED TO MAKE SURE THE WORLD DOES NOT EVER SEE ANOTHER PLACE IN HISTORY FOR SUCH MASS CRUELTY AND EVIL THAT TOOK PLACE IN THOSE PRISON CAMPS OF DEATH. I MAKE A STAND AS A GAY MAN TO SAY THAT IT MUST NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN AND WE MUST DO ALL HUMANLY POSSIBLE TO MAKE SURE WE STAND TOGETHER AGAINST REPRESSION, UNITED TOGETHER ALL RACE, CREED, RELIGION AND SEXUALITY, WHATEVER WALK OF LIFE YOU ARE FROM. I MAKE MY PLEDGE TO STAND UP AGAINST HATE.'
LEE THORNHILL, UK
'I visited Auschwitz in November with the HET and was lost for words. I was also at the Philharmonic on the 27th January and again I was lost for words. I make a pledge to all humanity that as a teacher in secondary education I will find the words and I will educate the next generation to prevent it happening again. 'YOU WILL NEVER WALK ALONE, I SHALL BE AT YOUR SIDE, I SHALL FIND THE VOICE'.'

'"Never Again". As the survivors pass on, the task of Holocaust Education becomes ever more important. Liverpool has always been a beacon of tolerance and we thank everyone in Liverpool involved with organising HMD 2008 for keeping the flame burning.'
Jonathan Hoffman, UK (London)
'My mother came to England from Austria via the Kinder Transport in 1939. She was twelve years of age and never saw her parents or siblings again. Her father was murdered in Buchenwald, her mother in Auschwitz. She still recalls the anguished look on her mother's face when she boarded the train in Vienna. Thanks to the kindness of the people of Liverpool, she was able to make a new life for herself and put the horrors of the Nazi regime behind her. Civilised society can be fairly judged by the way it treats its children. However hard it may be for the present generation to comprehend the scale and brutallity of what happened, literally on our own doorsteps, we must all heed one most important lesson; to turn one's back is to bring shame on all of humanity.'
Howard Winik, United Kingdom
