Liverpool City Council - certificates

Certificates

Copies of Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates are available from the Register Office.

These have many day-to-day uses including:

  • applying for a passport.
  • seeking a student loan.
  • attaching to a CV.
  • making an insurance claim.
  • proving probate.

They are also much in demand by genealogists, probate solicitors and family history researchers.

Since June 2003 over 1,200,000 Liverpool Marriage Indexes (1875 - 1935) have been released on the LancashireBMD web-site.  To achieve this we have worked in partnership with the Manchesterand Lancashire, and with the Liverpooland South West Lancashire family history societies.

Access LancashireBMD for full details of all available on-line Liverpoolindexes.

If you apply in person at the Register Office for copy certificates for day-to-day use, they will be issued 24 working hours later.

During very busy periods this time for issue may stretch to 48 working hours.

Postal applications for day-to-day certificates are processed within 5 working days.

Certificates for family history research are processed within 2 to 3 weeks or less, depending upon the time of year and the demand for other certificates.

Please allow the necessary time for any application to be processed.
