Free travel pass

Post 16 students (years 12 and 13)

From the academic year 2011/12 onwards, the council will no longer provide home to school travel passes for post 16 students.

Exceptions:

Pupils with SEN

There are exceptions for some pupils with special educational needs, as outlined in section 4 of the Home to School Travel Policy for 2011/12). If you think you may be eligible for support under this section of the policy then please contact the SEN transport team on 233 6511.

Year 13 pupils from a low income household

To help ease the impact of this decision the council will continue to provide help to year 13 pupils for one year only (2011/12) if they are from a low income household and meet the following criteria:

  • Be eligible for free school meals, or the parent or carer is in receipt of the maximum level of Working Tax Credit and either;
  • Live more than two miles but less than six miles away from the current school; or
  • If the school attended was chosen on the basis of faith and the student lives more than two miles but not more than 15 miles from the school.

Download the Home to School Transport Policy 2011/12 for full details and eligibility criteria.

Compulsory school aged children (up to age 16) for academic year 2011/12 and 2012/13

Following changes to the council's Home to School Transport Policy, pupils up to 16 will only be eligible for free home to school travel support if they attend their 'nearest suitable school'.

Please note: This change will only apply to those pupils making new applications for the 2012/13 academic year.

As this change is being phased, travel passes awarded for this academic year (2011/12) will continue until pupils finish compulsory school education, providing that pupils do not change school, home address or their circumstances do not change during this time.
